When she was only four years old, Charlotte Campbell from New Zealand had to get fitted with a cochlear implant – an electronic device that directly stimulates the auditory nerves of the inner ear. This gives a sense of sound to people who have severe hearing loss. When she turned six, she needed to get fitted for another implant to stimulate hearing in her right ear. Her father decided to do something to honor his brave little girl.

A Touching Tribute

The day before his daughter’s operation, Alistair Campbell shaved his head and got a tattoo of a cochlear implant. It is a nice tribute to his little girl and now they match, so she does not feel like the odd one out. It was not a hard decision for the father to make; a little pain is worth making his daughter happy and his hair can grow back. He took an adorable photo with her, which has gone viral on social media.

A Strong Bond

Charlotte thinks her dad’s tattoo is cool. Before her implants were fitted, she was was quite introverted. But now her mother reports that she has gained a lot of confidence and is the life of the party. Alistair plans to grow his hair out again, but he will shave it for special occasions, or when his daughter wants to see it. “The tattoo was a tribute – this was all about her, not me,” he said.  “We have a close father-daughter bond, and I thought it would be quite fitting for me to do that.  As she grows older, she’ll understand the love behind it.”
