Nigerian singer Yemi Alade seems to be on a roll. Weeks after collaborating with superstars like Flavour N’abania and 2Baba, the diva just teamed up with Kenyan afro-pop band Sauti Sol.
Celebrating Africa’s beauty
The singer of Na Gode released a very colorful video of her single Africa. The song which is off her latest album called “Mama Africa: The Diary of an African Woman” celebrates the continent’s riches and beauty. During the video, which appears to be filmed in Nigeria, Kenya, the United Kingdom and the United States, Yemi Alade pays tribute to several African leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Kwame Nkrumah, and Haile Selassie by displaying their photos. The song’s catchy chorus is also a vibrant homage to the continent. Throughout the song, you can hear the musicians sing:
“Anywhere you go, London, USA, nowhere be like Africa, nowhere be like home.”
This is not the first time that Yemi Alade performs with the famous Kenyan group. In October 2015, they performed the song Shake Your Bam in the Coke Studio Africa season 3 show. The Nigerian diva even admitted that Bien, one of the group’s vocalists, convinced her to sing the hit song Na Gode in Swahili.
“Bien of Sauti Sol came up with the idea that I do a song in Swahili and I took up the challenge,” she once said in a radio interview.
Yemi Alade plans to donate 10% of the album’s profits to underprivileged African children living in orphanages.
