Do you have an ex that you despise? Or a horrible boss or coworker? Imagine being able to share your complaints about an individual with the entire world. You could review and rate them from one to five stars. Everyone will be ranked and sorted in lists. That is what the app Peeple aims to do.

A so-called positivity app

The app will be launched in November on iOS devices only. The founders behind Peeple, named Julia Cordray and Nicole McCullough, claim that their idea is a “positivity app.” It will allow users to treat human beings like services such as restaurants, hotel rooms, or car dealerships. You will be able to rate and search whoever is on the app. Virtually anyone can be reviewed: friends, neighbors, bosses, coworkers, dates – anyone. Once posted, reviews cannot be removed nor can they be censored or filtered.

There are some minor rules, but other than that anything goes

Anyone who is 21 or older and has an active Facebook account is allowed to create a review. If you have the person’s cell phone number, you can start a new profile for them and they will receive a text message. The message will tell them who posted a review and encourage them to see what they said on the app. The reviews must be made under a person’s real name and they must share how they know the person. There are three categories someone can be evaluated in: personal, professional and romantic.

It is already creating a lot of buzz

According to the Peeple Facebook page, thousands of people have already signed up to be beta testers. The company’s shares are currently valued at $7.6 million. What is the purpose of this app?

Corday says “This is about abundance for all, and lifting people up and finding out who the really good people are. I’ve never believed in anything more than I believe in this product.  We already rate our restaurants, our taxi drivers, and our clothes, so why not rate the people in our lives?”

Many believe that there is an obvious answer to that question – it can get ugly.

People are already speaking out against it

There is fear that is will lead to online bullying. Several people have already slammed the idea; most notable model Chrissy Teigen.

She vented her frustrations on Twitter, stating “In an age where both truth and gossip on the Internet can literally ruin lives, this #peeple app is horrible AND scary #yelpforhumans??? at least I signed up to have the world judge and grade me publicly. I f***ing hate this app and the boardroom table it was created around.”

The founders insist it will restrict bullying

The women say that they have systems in place to make sure no one is tormented. Users will be able to report comments and, if a user is found guilty of bullying, the comment and user will be removed. But this is left to the app operator’s’ judgement.
