Fighting corruption

Buhari, a former army general who is known for his authoritarian style, started a war against corruption. Earlier on this week, Godsday Orubebe, the former Niger Delta minister under Buhari’s predecessor pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery and false declaration of assets. Orubebe is accused of failing to declare two properties that he owned when he took office in June 2011. He has also allegedly accepted $350,000 in bribes. Nigeria will not realize its full economic potential unless it tackles the endemic corruption problem present in the country.
