Wizkid, Cassper Nyovest, Yemi Alade, MzVee and Diamond Platnumz Will All Represent Africa At The Next BET Awards
Artists from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Tanzania are all competing for the BET Awards International Artist of the Year: Africa act.
This year’s edition of the BET Awards is going to be held on June 26th at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. In recognition of the growing international presence of African artists, the media company nominated 8 African musicians for the International Artist of the Year: Africa category. The nominees include AKA and Cassper Nyovest, two hip-hop rivals from South Africa, DJ Black Coffee, Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz, Ghana’s dancehall queen MzVee and Cote d’Ivoire’s Serge Beynaud. Nigeria will be represented by Wizkid and diva Yemi Alade.
These nominations confirm the success that all of these artists have had in the past year. In 2015’s All Africa Music Awards (Afrima), AKA, Cassper Nyovest, Yemi Alade and Diamond Platnumz respectively won the Best African Collaboration, the Best Artist in African Hip Hop, the Best Female Artist in West Africa, and the Artist of the Year awards. DJ Black Coffee won the Breakthrough Artist of the Year award at the 18th annual DJ Awards in Ibiza. MzVee was elected Best New Artiste Of The Year at the 2015 Ghana music Awards, and Nigerian artist Wizkid is cruising through international stardom after collaborating with well-established artists like Drake.
Fans can vote for the final winner in the category on the BET website.
