The Enzo Ferrari is among the rarest and most sought-after supercars in recent memory. The model was named after the legendary Italian sports-car maker’s founder, Enzo Anselmo Ferrari. The 12 cylinder mid-engine supercar was built in 2002.

A real gem

The car, which was originally sold for approximately $600,000, is now worth millions of dollars. It was designed by Japanese designer Ken Okuyama with a limited production of 349 vehicles. The auto manufacturer marketed this model with a special technique. Ferrari sent invitations only to existing customers. All of the 349 cars were sold prior to production. Later, after several requests, Ferrari built another batch of 50 Enzos, bringing the total to 399. The latest model, the 400th Enzo, was built and donated to the Vatican for charity in 2004. The car was later auctioned off for $6 million.

Impounded forever?

It is no surprise that you will come across super luxurious cars in Dubai. The Dubai police force, which is famous for owning some of the rarest and most powerful cars, has a car parked in its lot that is raising eyebrows: a Ferrari Enzo that was impounded in 2012 and that is still sitting unclaimed. The supercar, covered in dust, was seized by the police 11 months after it was left abandoned by its British owner.

Though law enforcement officers usually auction off vehicles after a period of time in detention, this time, they sell the car because of a complicated legal case regarding its ownership. The vehicle could have been stolen or purchased with illegal funds. According to Colonel Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, the director of Dubai’s Traffic Department, the police receives many calls from potential buyers interested in the Enzo. Recently, the officers rejected a $1.6 million bid from an American car enthusiast. The car cannot be sold until the legal dispute over its ownership is resolved. For the time being, it is parked in a warehouse to prevent sun damage.
