Samara Muir, a 3-year-old girl, was attending a Disney-themed event with her mother Rachel at a Melbourne shopping mall. Samara was dressed up as Queen Elsa from the Disney movie Frozen. Something disturbing happened…

A hateful attack

While the two were waiting in line, a woman turned around and told Samara she did not understand why she was “dressed up for because Queen Elsa isn’t black”. When her mother asked the woman what she meant by her comment, one of the woman’s daughters reportedly screwed up her face, pointed at Samara, who is aboriginal, and said “you’re black and black is ugly.”

The poor girl was devastated

Samara was so affected by the words that were said, that she was moved to tears.  Afterwards, she refused to go to her weekly Aboriginal dance class.  “When I asked why she didn’t want to go, she pointed at the skin on her arm and asked why she was black,” her mother said.  Rachel vented her frustrations on Facebook.

Samara was on the front page of her local newspaper and was even interviewed on television. The press called her a princess and surely made her feel like one. Her mother says: “She is back to her proud, beautiful Aboriginal self.”
