There is a male gorilla named Shabani who lives in the Higashiyama Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Japan. Shabani grew up in Australia and has been at the Japanese zoo since 2007. He has been gaining notoriety in the last few months for quite a peculiar reason.

He is getting popular with the ladies

Shabani has become an attraction, particularly with young Japanese girls, because they find him so handsome. The zoo’s attendance rate has skyrocketed because of the young women flocking to the handsome ape.

His young female fanbase is using the Japanese phrase イケメン (Ikemen) when talking about Shabani. This is a strange word to use in relation to an ape since that is normally used when referring to handsome young men.

He seems to be fully aware of how good he looks. Shabani knows how to put on a show for the cameras. He flexes his muscles, stares off into the distance, and cuddles with younger apes.
