Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o is really determined to help the refugees who are fleeing the violence in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon. Earlier this year, he organized a fundraising campaign called Yellow Whistle Blower. The campaign’s objective was to raise funds for NGOs who are currently assisting refugees displaced by the growing threat posed by Boko Haram.

Saving 1.5 million people

According to Oxfam, 1.5 million people have left their homes fearing constant attacks from Boko Haram, and the non profit organization is providing humanitarian support to the refugees on the ground. On October 27th, Eto’o will host a fundraising ball at the Claridge’s Hotel in London to raise awareness on the refugee crisis affecting Nigeria and Cameroon. Guests will enjoy dinner, good company, music and an auction. All the money raised will be donated to Oxfam and to the United Nations Refugee Agency.

Giving back to the community

This is not Samuel Eto’o’s first event for the Yellow Whistle Blower FC initiative. The footballer hopes to have a fruitful collaboration with Oxfam.

“With my foundation, we are proud to team up with Oxfam on our Yellow Whistle Blower FC initiative. This crisis is dreadful. We like Oxfam’s ability to adapt to this fast-moving situation on the ground as well as its long-term commitment to the project. We look forward to a productive collaboration with Oxfam and hope to help as many people as possible,” Eto’o said.

Jane Cocking, Oxfam’s humanitarian director told the press:

“We are delighted Samuel is helping to focus attention and funds on a much under-reported crisis. One and a half million people have fled their homes in Nigeria due to attacks by Boko Haram insurgents. Oxfam is there making sure they get the food, water, sanitation and the support they need to get back on their feet.”

According to Oxfam, for every £1 donated, 84 pence will go directly to emergency, development and campaigning efforts, 8 pence will be spent on support costs, and 8 pence will be invested to generate future revenues.
