MTV Africa released the list of nominees for the 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA), and Togolese group Toofan, author of the hit Gweta, leads the field with four nods: Best Collaboration, Best Live Act, Best Francophone, and Song Of The Year. Nigerian afrobeats star Davido is close behind with three nominations, including Best Male, Best Collaboration, and Video Of The Year for his track called The Sound featuring Uhuru & DJ Buckz. Nigerian artist Wizkid follows, notching nominations for Best Male and Song Of The Year for the single Show Me The Money.

A symbolic date

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 18th 2015 in Durban, South Africa. It will coincide with Nelson Mandela’s birthday. This year’s edition will mark the 5th anniversary of a show that recognizes contemporary artists from all over the African continent. A total of 70 nominees across 13 different categories were announced. Nominees for the MTV Base Leadership Award and the Best International Act will be disclosed at a later date. Fans can vote on the MTV Africa Music Awards website.
