Montreal Impact fans have been waiting for Didier Drogba for weeks. The Ivorian superstar finally made his first start in an MLS game against the Chicago Fire. The striker picked up a hat trick, as he led the Impact to a crucial 4-3 victory over the Chicago Fire in Mauro Biello’s first game as interim coach. Drogba, who signed with the Impact last July, missed his first few games because of a toe injury.

A fantastic performance

Didier Drogba opened the score at the 27th minute taking a cross from Nigel Reo-Coker, and scored two more goals later in the game.

“What can I say? It was an exceptional performance,” coach Biello said . “He’s someone who’s really engaged. He’s won everywhere. He came here with a great desire to win and that’s what we saw tonight.”

There is a small irony to the situation because The Fire listed Drogba as one of their potential recruits but were not able to agree with him.

Still not 100%

Despite being the man-of-the-match, Drogba doesn’t feel 100% fit yet.

“The manager asked me how I was feeling and I was a bit tired at the end; I’m working hard to get back to fitness,” Drogba said after the game. “It’s only my second real week of work after two months of nothing so it’s a bit difficult at the end, but I’m quite happy with my physical performance today,” he said.

His toe is still bothering him, but Didier Drogba wants more playing time.“It’s still painful, even more now,” He said. “But I got a few days now to rest and get some treatment and to be ready for the next game”.
