After a few days after the start of his contract, Boateng received an award from the club’s CEO, Adriano Galliani, for reaching the milestone of 100 appearances for the team. Galliani praised Boateng and recalled his re-signing with AC Milan:

“I was at Forte Dei Marmi, and while I was chatting away with Genoa President Preziosi about the 2010 World Cup, he told me that he had signed Boateng, who was a player that I was very impressed with during his performances with Ghana. In just 10 minutes, we were able to agree a move from Genoa to Milan. He started his adventure with us on the 28th of August 2010 in Milan-Lecce, a match that ended 4-0 to us, and three years later on the 28th of August 2013 he played his last match of his first spell against PSV Eindhoven and scored twice […] He then left and so this award has been waiting for him for the past two years! We’re very pleased to have him and I think he is also very happy. You’ve finally come back and so I wish you all the best and I hope you can receive more of these awards in the future.”

With humility, Boateng said:

“I am very happy and I hope to make another 100 appearances, but this is a decision for the coach.”

A “perfect day”

The day after receiving the award, Boateng scored a sumptuous comeback goal. Moments after he came on the field for Mbaye Niang, the Ghanaian player beat Tatarusanu to a long pass from Juraj Kucha, circled the goalkeeper and scored from 12 yards. This goal helped AC Milan beat Fiorentina 2-0. This victory eased the pressure on Milan coach Mihalovic, whose team was in a losing streak. Boateng, who seems to be bringing hope and a breeze of fresh air to a struggling AC Milan team dedicated his goal to the team’s coach:

“This was a perfect day. There’s nothing better than scoring at San Siro […] This is a victory for Mihajlovic and all the Milanisti,” Boateng said.

Fans have yet to see the Boateng who helped the club to a Serie A title in 2011, however, he is progressively convincing his strongest detractors.
