On Saturday September 19th, right before Real Madrid’s game against Grenada, Cristiano Ronaldo was seen with a special guest. Ronaldo walked in the pitch before kickoff with Zaid, a young Syrian refugee.
Supporting refugees
The Real Madrid organization invited Zaid and his family to meet the club’s president and they were present as guests of the club during the team’s clash with Granada. Before the match, the Real Madrid players wore T-shirts supporting the many refugees who fled to Europe from the Syrian war. “Little Zaid got to know his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo, with whom he was photographed on the pitch,” the team representatives said in a statement. This gesture brought luck to the team as they beat Grenada after French striker Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game.

Famous refugees
Zaid is the son of Osama Abdul Mohsen, a refugee who recently became famous after a video of him and his family went viral. In the video, Mohsen, who was running through a field around the Hungarian border carrying his 8-year-old son, was tripped by a Hungarian camerawoman. This act provoked outrage across the world, and the camerawoman was fired from her job. The Spanish club of CENAFE offered Mohsen, who used to be a football coach in his country, a coaching role and a home for his family. Spain has agreed to welcome 17,000 of the Syrian refugees that have flooded into Europe.
