Tanzanian singer and dancer Diamond Platnumz has been voted Best African Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) 2015 after beating South African rapper AKA, Nigerian musicians Davido and Yemi Alade, and Ivorian MC DJ Arafat, who were also nominated in the same category.
Breaking into a small circle of African artists
The previous Best African Act winners were Sauti Sol in 2014, LCNVL in 2013, D’Banj in 2007 and in 2012, Freshlyground in 2006 and 2Face Idibia in 2005. The Tanzanian star is now going head to head against actress-singer Priyanka Chopra, who has been voted Best India Act, in the Best Worldwide Act: Africa/India category. Fans can vote for the final winner in the category on the MTV website. Diamond Platnumz expressed his gratitude on his Facebook page:

A star-studded event
Ed Sheeran and Orange is the New Black’s Ruby Rose will be co-hosting the 2015 MTV Europe Music Awards ceremony on October 25th at the Mediolanum Forum in Milan. Nominees for this year’s ceremony include celebrities such as Kendrick Lamar, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars and Nicki Minaj.
