The 2015 All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, took place on Sunday, November 16th at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos Nigeria. Some of Africa’s best entertainers were present to celebrate the continent’s rich musical heritage.
The Big Winners
Contrary to last year when Nigerian artists dominated the winner’s list by taking home 13 awards, this year’s most notable wins came from artists representing East Africa and the South of the continent. South African rapper Cassper Nyovest won the Best Artist in African Hip Hop and The Best Male Artist in Southern Africa awards. Kenyan band Sauti Sol won two awards including Best African Group and Producer of the Year featuring Cedric Kadenyi. The big winner of the night was Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz. He took home the Song of the Year, the Artist of the Year and the Best Male Artist in East Africa prizes.

A star-studded event
More than 162 African artists attended the event, which coincided with the month of South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s 55th anniversary. The winners were given a 23.9 karat gold-plated drum and microphone-shaped trophy. The ceremony was broadcast live to more than 80 countries around the world.
