Just when you think you have seen it all, Mother Nature throws something crazy at you. A new species of frog has been discovered in the Talamanca Mountains of Costa Rica. Scientists somehow missed the standout creature for years while studying the area. The amphibian is officially called the Hyalinobatrachium dianae. The Internet has noticed that it bears an uncanny resemblance to a certain famous Muppet.

A transparent belly

The Hyalinobatrachium dianae is a type of glass frog. Like other glass frog varieties, its skin is somewhat translucent. This partially transparent skin means the internal organs on its belly are visible. The Hyalinobatrachium dianae differs from other breeds. It stands out because its skin is an extremely bright green and its bulging eyes are black and white.

An interesting breed

The frog was photographed by Dr. Brian Kubicki, who named it after his mother. He conducted a study on the frog with zoologists Stanley Salazar and Robert Puschendorf. The Hyalinobatrachium dianae has a whistle-like call that sounds more like an insect. Dr. Kubicki says the frog is a sign of a healthy ecosystem in that area of Costa Rica.

They are practically twins

The Hyalinobatrachium dianae eye’s and skin color match exactly with the iconic look of Kermit the Frog – the most famous Muppet. You better step aside, Kermit! There is a new famous frog in town.
