Yet, they have never taken place in Africa. That is all about to change &#8211; it is confirmed that Durban, South Africa will be the first African city to host the Commonwealth Games in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A Major Milestone<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 22nd Commonwealth Games will begin on 18 July 2022 and finish on 30 July 2022. Athletes from over 50 countries, most former British colonies, compete in 22 different sports. An athletics track is being installed at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, which was built for the 2010 Fifa World Cup. &#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a movement we stand together to support the very first games on African soil<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,&#8221; said outgoing CGF president Prince Tunku Imran. This milestone could possibly lead to bigger things. So we are not going to build entirely a new infrastructure, we will build on top of what we have.
