One of the theories is that the name is derived from the Kikuyu name for Mount Kirinyaga, which is now called Mount Kenya. In Hebrew, the name means \u2018Animal Horn\u2019 which is another theory. According to a funny anecdote, when the British arrived in the country they could not pronounce Mount Kirinyaga. The female environmentalist, Professor Wangari Maathai, won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 for her dedication to the environment, women\u2019s rights and conservation. She was not only the first African woman to win the prize, but she was also the first environmentalist ever to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
