It has become so in-demand that Nigeria\u2019s premier radio station, The Beat FM, is expanded to London. The Beat FM London launched on March 28th. The station will play a mix of music from Nigeria and other African countries, plus, of course, Britain and the Caribbean.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A rapidly expanding brand<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Beat FM started its operations in 2008 and has rapidly grown rapidly since, adding two stations over the years<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0The UK expansion took over the channel Bang Radio 103.6 in North London. General Manager of The Beat FM\u2019s parent company Megalectrics, Deji Awokoya, said:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThis was by no means a hostile takeover, but a long-considered, calculated move because our aim is to globalize local talent.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This station will be the fifth in Megalectrics\u2019 radio division and its first international platform. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cAlready, Bang FM is a fixture in the Afro-Caribbean entertainment industry, with close collaborations with radio stations and media in Nigeria. It even has Nigerians in its OAP-mix.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15051\" style=\"width: 701px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-15051\" src=\"https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/cejq6mguaaakvss.jpg\" alt=\"source\" width=\"701\" height=\"575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/cejq6mguaaakvss.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/03\/cejq6mguaaakvss-85x70.jpg 85w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 701px) 100vw, 701px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-15051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CeJQ6MgUAAAKVSs.jpg\">source<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>African music is now on the mainstream<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the CEO of Megalectrics, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/646547\/the-sound-of-young-urban-africa-is-set-to-take-over-the-worlds-pop-charts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chris Ubosi,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0the station will provide a platform for African music in a growing market.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWe want to put African music on the same pedestal with other genres. So for us, this is a strategic move and the beginning of a completely new frontier in the globalization of entertainment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Demola Ogundele, the founder of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/notjustok.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Afrobeat music blog Notjustok.com<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, said that the digital distribution market has helped to spread African music. \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/6627241\/the-digital-potential-in-african-music-markets-where-growth-could-come\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It is estimated that while Nigeria\u2019s physical music market will decline by $3 million by 2017,<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the digital market is expected to grow by $2 million. \u00a0South Africa was predicted to generate $85.3 million in spending on music in 2015. \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/business\/6890795\/sony-music-lagos-nigeria-office\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sony Music opened a Lagos office last February <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as a first step towards making a mark in the West African market. Adam Granite, Sony&#8217;s president of Northern\/Eastern Europe &amp; Africa, said the region has big potential for the music industry to grow. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;West Africa has a population of 340 million, and Nigeria alone has 150 million of that.
