But the World Health Organization has reported a full week of no new cases.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>This is exciting news<\/strong><\/h2>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;No confirmed cases of Ebola virus disease were reported in the week to 4 October. Over the past year, there has been a total of 28,421 cases and 11,297 reported deaths. The majority of cases have been in three countries: Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. The epidemic affects countries\u2019 ability to function. In late September, Sierra Leone began a 42-day countdown to becoming Ebola-free. They have gone three full weeks with no new cases. The WHO says that the epidemic has entered a third phase on is on its way out. According to the organization, the focus is now on bringing <em>&#8220;case incidence to <\/em>zero,<em> and ensure a sustained end to (Ebola) transmission.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_10385\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10385\" style=\"width: 700px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-10385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/10\/CEkxLjYWYAEfkwv.jpg\" alt=\"source\" width=\"700\" height=\"394\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/10\/CEkxLjYWYAEfkwv.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.afrizap.com\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2015\/10\/CEkxLjYWYAEfkwv-85x48.jpg 85w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-10385\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CEkxLjYWYAEfkwv.jpg\">source<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><strong>But the disease could still come back<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It may be on its way out, but Ebola could still come back \u00a0The virus could reappear and, though it is rare, it is possible it can be transmitted from healthy survivors through unprotected sexual activity.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">There are more than 500 people in Guinea at risk of exposure &#8211; they are still being monitored and will not be cleared to leave until the 21-day incubation period ends.
