Many were wondering whether Didier Drogba was going to retire as a footballer and join Guus Hiddink’s bench in Chelsea or not. From the look of it, the 37-year-old football star still has his magical touch. Upon his return to training with the Montreal Impact, Drogba tricked his teammate Victor Cabrera in a perfect backheeled nutmeg.

The champion is back and the Montreal Impact fans are delighted as they feared that he would be missing from this year’s roster. Last season, the Ivorian striker scored 12 goals in 14 games in the MLS.

“The Drogba Effect”

The Montreal Impact fans weren’t the only ones to be excited about Drogba’s return. The club’s management also expressed satisfaction. Drogba’s impact on the organization is not limited to winning and scoring goals, it is a whole business. Last season, his presence in Montreal resulted in an increase in ticket and merchandise sales as well as in endorsements. The club sold 8500 seasons tickets that year, which is a record. Some members of the organization even believe that the striker could boost sales by another 20% to 30% in the upcoming season, bringing between 2000 and 3000 new fans to the stadium.
